Farm animals are usually the first animals a young child can name, which makes them a comfortable starting point for colouring. The shapes are rounded and familiar, the outlines can be drawn thick and generous, and almost every child already has an opinion about which animal is best.
This starter set has two sheets: a barnyard scene with a cow, a chicken and a pig standing together, and a quieter meadow page with a sheep and her lamb. Both are pure black line art on white, so they print cleanly on a home printer without using colour ink.
Underneath the sheets you will find a short Learn & Color section about what farm animals eat, what they give us, and the jobs a farmer does through the day — useful if the pages are being used alongside a farm topic at school.

Learn About Farm Animals
What farm animals give us
Cows give milk, which becomes butter, cheese and yoghurt. Chickens lay eggs, usually about one a day in summer. Sheep grow wool that is clipped each spring, which does not hurt them any more than a haircut hurts us. Understanding where everyday food comes from is one of the earliest science ideas children meet.
A farmer's day
Most farm work happens early. Animals are checked, fed and watered before breakfast, milking often starts before sunrise, and fences and bedding are seen to during the day. Animals are checked again in the evening. It is steady, repeated work rather than one big job.
Try this while you colour
Ask your child to make the sound each animal makes, then to say what that animal gives people. Older children can label each animal with the name of its baby: calf, chick, piglet, lamb.

- What age are these farm pages for?
- Roughly ages three to eight. The barnyard sheet suits the youngest children; the sheep page has more detail for ages five and up.
- Can I print these for a whole class?
- Yes. Teachers, childminders and homeschooling parents may print as many copies as they need for their own children. Selling the files or reposting them elsewhere online is not permitted.
- What paper should I print on?
- Plain 80–120 gsm US Letter or A4 paper works for crayons and coloured pencils. Choose 'Fit to page' in your print dialog. If your child uses felt tips or paint, step up to 160 gsm card so the colour does not bleed through.
