Volcanoes are one of the clearest ways to show children that the Earth is not a finished object but a place that is still forming. A single drawing can carry a lot of science: the mountain built from its own eruptions, the vent running down its centre, and the chamber of molten rock far beneath.
This collection includes an eruption scene with lava running down the slopes and forest at the base, and a labeled cross-section sheet with blank lines for the magma chamber, vent and crater. The cross-section works well as an assessment page after a lesson — children colour it, then label it from memory.

A volcano is an opening in the Earth's crust where molten rock, ash and gas can reach the surface. Molten rock is called magma while it is underground and lava once it erupts.
Deep underground, heat and pressure melt rock into magma. Because magma is lighter than the solid rock around it, it rises and collects in a magma chamber. As gases inside it expand, pressure builds until the magma forces its way up through the vent and out of the crater.
Shield volcanoes, like those in Hawaii, are wide and gently sloped because their runny lava spreads far. Stratovolcanoes, like Mount Fuji, are steep cones built from alternating layers of ash and lava. Cinder cones are the smallest, formed from fragments thrown into the air.
Eruptions are dangerous, but volcanic soil is among the most fertile on Earth, which is why farming communities have lived near volcanoes for thousands of years. Scientists called volcanologists monitor them to warn people before an eruption.
