Venus and Earth are close in size and made of similar rock, but the resemblance stops there. Venus is wrapped in a heavy carbon dioxide atmosphere that traps heat and makes it the hottest planet in the solar system.
Clouds you could never fly through
The clouds on Venus are made of sulphuric acid, not water, and they hide the surface completely. Everything we know about the ground below came from radar and a handful of landers.
A very slow spin
Venus turns so slowly that a single day there lasts longer than its entire year around the Sun, and it spins the opposite way to most planets.
