Cat senses
Cats see well in dim light because a mirror-like layer behind the retina, the tapetum lucidum, reflects light back through the eye. Their hearing reaches much higher pitches than ours, which helps them find small animals, and their whiskers sense tiny changes in the air around them.
Why cats behave the way they do
Sleeping, grooming and short bursts of play fill most of a cat's day. Play looks like hunting on purpose: stalking, pouncing and carrying a toy are the same movements a wild cat uses to catch food.

- A group of cats is called a clowder, and a group of kittens is called a kindle.
- Cats have about 20 whiskers on each side of the face, and each one sits in a socket full of nerves.
- Most adult cats sleep somewhere between twelve and sixteen hours a day.
- Cats sweat only through their paw pads, so on hot days you may see damp paw prints.
- Kittens are born with their eyes closed and open them after about a week to ten days.
