The crest is hollow and connects to the animal’s nasal passages. Scientists have modelled the tubes inside and think Parasaurolophus could have produced deep, resonant calls, a little like blowing through a horn. The crest may also have helped animals recognise each other.
About the Parasaurolophus
Parasaurolophus was a duck-billed plant eater from North America that lived roughly 76 to 73 million years ago. Its most striking feature is the long hollow crest curving back from the top of its head.
