How Brachiosaurus fed
Its long neck let it reach leaves high in the trees that shorter animals could not touch. Its teeth were shaped like broad chisels, good for stripping leaves. It did not chew, so it swallowed plant food whole and digested it slowly.
About the Brachiosaurus
Brachiosaurus was an enormous long-necked plant eater from the Late Jurassic of North America, roughly 154 to 150 million years ago. Unlike most dinosaurs, its front legs were longer than its back legs, which tilted its body upwards and lifted its head very high.

- The name Brachiosaurus means “arm lizard”, because of its long front legs.
- Its front legs were longer than its back legs — unusual for a dinosaur.
- It swallowed leaves whole instead of chewing them.
- It was named in 1903 from fossils found in Colorado, USA.
- Different fossils give different size estimates, so its exact length is uncertain.
