Learning Through Colouring
Counting is more than reciting
Saying 'one two three' is not the same as understanding quantity. Touching each object once as it is counted, and knowing that the last number said is the total, are the two steps that actually matter. A counting sheet makes both visible.
Colour as a sorting tool
Ask your child to colour all the apples red and all the fish blue. Sorting by category before counting is exactly the reasoning used later in grouping and multiplication.
Talking about a new school
A picture is an easier way in than a direct question. While colouring the school page, ask who they sit near, what happens at lunchtime, or which part of the day they like best.

- Can the counting page be reused?
- Yes. Many teachers print it, laminate it and let children write totals with a dry-wipe pen, keeping a paper copy for colouring.
- Can I print these for a whole class?
- Yes. Teachers, childminders and homeschooling parents may print as many copies as they need for their own children. Selling the files or reposting them elsewhere online is not permitted.
- What paper should I print on?
- Plain 80–120 gsm US Letter or A4 paper works for crayons and coloured pencils. Choose 'Fit to page' in your print dialog. If your child uses felt tips or paint, step up to 160 gsm card so the colour does not bleed through.
