Preschool Coloring Pages — Free Simple Printables

10 printable sheets · Ages 2–5 · Very easy

Colouring for a two- or three-year-old is not really about staying inside the lines. It is about holding a crayon, choosing a colour and finishing something. Pages for this age need to be forgiving: few shapes, thick borders, plenty of white space.

This starter set has a shapes page — a smiling sun, circle, square, triangle and star — and a first animals page with a very simple cat, dog, duck and fish.

Both are drawn with heavy outlines that stay visible even when a child colours straight over them.

Colouring in the Early Years

What colouring builds

Gripping a crayon strengthens the small hand muscles used later for writing. Choosing colours and noticing edges builds visual attention. Finishing a page — even messily — builds the sense that a task can be completed.

Naming as you go

Say the shape or animal aloud as your child colours it, and ask which colour they are choosing. This turns a quiet activity into vocabulary practice without it feeling like a lesson.

What to expect at this age

Scribbling across the whole page is normal and useful before the age of about three and a half. Staying roughly inside a large shape usually comes between four and five. Neither is worth pushing.

Frequently asked questions

Are these coloring pages free?
Yes, every sheet in this collection is free to print and download, with no account needed.
Are these suitable for toddlers?
Yes. The outlines are extra thick and there are very few shapes per page, which suits ages two to five.
Can I print these for a whole class?
Yes. Teachers, childminders and homeschooling parents may print as many copies as they need for their own children. Selling the files or reposting them elsewhere online is not permitted.
What paper should I print on?
Plain 80–120 gsm US Letter or A4 paper works for crayons and coloured pencils. Choose 'Fit to page' in your print dialog. If your child uses felt tips or paint, step up to 160 gsm card so the colour does not bleed through.
