Shark Species Coloring Pages
0 printable sheets · Ages 5-10
There are hundreds of shark species and they look remarkably different from one another. This set gives each species its own sheet so children can see what actually makes a hammerhead a hammerhead.
Colour a whale shark's spotted back, a mako's streamlined body or a nurse shark's flat head and barbels, and read a few accurate facts about each one while you work.

Different body, different life
A shark's shape is a clue to how it lives. Streamlined species such as the shortfin mako are built for fast swimming in open water, while flatter, broad-headed species such as the nurse shark spend much of their time close to the seafloor.
Not all sharks eat the same food
Diets vary enormously between species. Whale sharks feed largely by filtering plankton and other small organisms from the water, while other species eat fish, squid or animals living on the seabed.
Frequently asked questions
- How many kinds of shark are there?
- Scientists have described hundreds of shark species, and new ones are still being named as researchers explore parts of the ocean that are hard to reach.
- Why is the hammerhead's head that shape?
- Researchers think the wide head helps spread the shark's senses further apart, which may improve how it detects prey and how well it can see around itself. Some details are still being studied.
