About the Brachiosaurus
Brachiosaurus was an enormous long-necked plant eater from the Late Jurassic of North America, roughly 154 to 150 million years ago. Unlike most dinosaurs, its front legs were longer than its back legs, which tilted its body upwards and lifted its head very high.
How Brachiosaurus fed
Its long neck let it reach leaves high in the trees that shorter animals could not touch. Its teeth were shaped like broad chisels, good for stripping leaves. It did not chew, so it swallowed plant food whole and digested it slowly.
How big was it really
Size estimates come from incomplete skeletons, so different scientists arrive at different numbers. Most place Brachiosaurus somewhere around 18 to 22 metres long, which makes it one of the largest animals ever to walk on land.
