Where T-Rex lived
T. rex fossils come from the United States and Canada, in rocks that were once warm, forested river plains. The same rocks hold Triceratops, Ankylosaurus and Edmontosaurus, so those animals shared the landscape with it.
About the T-Rex
Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs. It lived in western North America at the very end of the Cretaceous Period, roughly 68 to 66 million years ago. It walked on two powerful back legs, carried a huge head full of long teeth, and had short arms with two fingers on each hand.
Fun facts
- The name Tyrannosaurus rex means “tyrant lizard king”.
- Its largest teeth were over 20 centimetres long once the root is included.
- Its arms were short, but the bones were thick and strong.
- T. rex lived closer in time to us than it did to Stegosaurus.
- Scientists still debate how fast it could move; most estimates point to a brisk walk rather than a sprint.
