About the T-Rex
Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs. It lived in western North America at the very end of the Cretaceous Period, roughly 68 to 66 million years ago. It walked on two powerful back legs, carried a huge head full of long teeth, and had short arms with two fingers on each hand.
Where T-Rex lived
T. rex fossils come from the United States and Canada, in rocks that were once warm, forested river plains. The same rocks hold Triceratops, Ankylosaurus and Edmontosaurus, so those animals shared the landscape with it.
How we know about T-Rex
Everything we know comes from fossils. Dozens of partial T. rex skeletons have been dug up since the first one was described in 1905. One of the most complete, nicknamed Sue, is on display at the Field Museum in Chicago.
